How to use it

  1. Create the note with "Use this template" and look through your card statement and phone apps for every recurring charge.
  2. List each subscription with the price, billing day and your decision: keep, review or cancel.
  3. Move what you will cancel to "To cancel" and tick it once the cancellation is done.
  4. Add up the totals per month and per year. Review the list every three months and update the date at the top.

Tips

  • Looking at the yearly total changes how it feels: $13 a month seems small, $156 a year not so much.
  • As soon as you start a free trial, write down when it ends and create a reminder two days before (⋮ menu › Create reminder).
  • "Review" is for things you barely use. If it stays that way next month, cancel.
  • At home, agree on who pays for each service and avoid duplicate subscriptions to the same thing.

Cancel without the hassle

Many subscriptions are canceled in the app itself or in your phone’s app store, not on the service’s website. Before canceling, check how long access lasts: usually you keep it until the end of the period already paid. After canceling, keep the receipt or confirmation email and check the next statement to make sure the charge really stopped. Writing the cancellation date next to the item helps if you ever need to dispute a charge.

Only write the service name and the amounts. Do not keep account emails and passwords in the note.
