Weekly review template
Updated on October 28, 2026
Twenty minutes a week to look at everything from above prevents the feeling of always being behind. The weekly review empties the note where you jot things down in a rush, checks your calendar, records what went well and picks next week’s three priorities.

Step 1: Empty
- Inbox note read and every item has a place
- Important photos, papers and messages filed
Step 2: Check the calendar
- Last week: anything left hanging?
- Next two weeks: anything to prepare?
Step 3: Check the lists
- To-do list up to date
- "Waiting on someone": follow up where needed
Step 4: The week that passed
- What went well:
- What got stuck:
- What I learned:
Step 5: Next week
Three priorities:
How to use it
- Pick a fixed time, like Friday afternoon or Sunday evening, and create the note with "Use this template" (review/2026-11-16).
- Follow the steps in order, ticking each box. Emptying first clears your head for the rest.
- In step 4, write one line for each question. It does not need to be long; it needs to be honest.
- Finish by picking only three priorities for next week and move them to your to-do list or weekly planner.
Tips
- Create a recurring reminder in your calendar for review time. Without a set time, it is the first thing to be skipped.
- If the inbox note has many items, decide fast: do, schedule, delegate or delete.
- Reread the last few weeks’ reviews now and then. The same "stuck" items repeating show what needs to change.
- The review is for you. Even a bad week deserves an honest record, without beating yourself up.
Why it works
During the week, it is normal to jot everything down in a hurry and react to whatever comes up. The review is the moment to close that loop: nothing gets lost in a forgotten note, commitments do not catch you by surprise and priorities are chosen calmly, not in the middle of a rush. It pairs with the inbox note method explained in the guides: one note to jot things down fast, and the weekly review to give every item a place.
